Entering a new world

As Thornburg (2004) stated in Technology and Education: Expectations, not Options, "Today we are all like Alice who stepped through the looking glass into a new world” (5). I am a newcomer to the world of blogging. Today, I am taking the first step of changing my status of a timid technology gal. I welcome the change. I want to be a part of a larger community. To learn from multitudes of others with similar passions is hard to pass by. Although this "new world" will take some getting used to, the potential is evident. Opportunities await.

  1. Hi Rachel,
I am a blogging newcomer as well, just a month or two more experienced (?) than you. My first Walden cohort in our first course, Teacher as a Professional, found that we were all far too social for the student lounge and loved to read. We explored starting a blog then and that is what got me started. I now am trying to launch two blogs through work, one for students and one for teachers. Both are slow going, but just the right pace for me as a beginner. You will do just fine and before you know it, you will be quite competent!
    Have fun,

  2. Inger,
Thanks for the encouragement. What an excellent idea to start a teacher blog along with student blogs. I also find that conversations with my colleagues are cut short. What kind of format are you trying for this? I could see great potential using this, thanks for sharing.

  3. Hi Rachel,
The blog that I am using for teachers is at:
http://cteusergroup.blogspot.com/. It was used over the summer by a few tech savvy teachers, but you can see nothing since school has begun. I know that some of the teachers I work with tell me that any blog sites are blocked by their school firewall. But my other larger concern is the true lack of comfort teachers have with technology for work purposes. Heck, I even have difficulties with teachers reading their emails thoroughly or registering online for workshops. So I have a long way to go to build their interest and ability to interact professionally online. The resources in this course provide some great support though, it is undeniable that we as teachers need to acquire these skills so that we can teacher them (at some level) to our students. At least students are usually willing to try...
